For manufacturers who exclusively use natural ingredients, the potential presence of insect eggs, larvae, or adult incest in raw materials is always a concern. At the Mealberry production facility in Treuen, we have installed industry-unique equipment that fully resolves this problem.
We place a strong emphasis on the quality of our products. Our production is ISO-certified and has operated for many years under a multi-stage quality control system. All incoming ingredients are tested in our own laboratory and a sample from each batch of products is selected for testing in an external independent laboratory, too. Ingredients that fail the tests are not allowed into production. However, even these measures do not always guarantee 100% protection.
Therefore we invested in a modern technological solution and installed equipment for preventive disinfection, which is carried out under pressure using natural carbonic acid.
Safety
This process is safe for all raw materials. It does not affect the taste, smell, or consistency of the product. The products are placed in special autoclaves that can hold over 10 Euro pallets at once, where they are exposed under pressure to CO2 and carbonic acid for several hours. CO2 is a non-toxic and non-flammable gas that has been in use for a long time in the food industry.
Studies have shown the procedure does not affect the taste or appearance of the products. At the same time, there is no negative impact on the ingredients that would diminish the product's value. Pressure disinfestation is also harmless to people and the environment.
We care about the health of our employees, the quality, and safety of our goods, which is why we choose modern cleaning methods over traditional ones, such as insecticides or poison gas treatments.
No traces
CARBO carbonic acid neutralizes harmful insects without leaving any traces. This cleaning method addresses the full insect life cycle — from eggs, the earliest and most persistent stage, to larvae and adult insects — making the technology particularly valuable. The procedure is harmless from a toxicological and biological point of view.
Results and efficiency
We use a technological solution that provides high effectiveness without the use of poisons or toxins. According to research, the level of eradication is always 100%.
The equipment, developed by a German company, was tested in cooperation with the Federal Center for Biological Research in Agriculture and Forestry, the Animal Protection Institute in Berlin, and was approved by the Federal Health Office and the Federal Environment Agency of Germany.
